Sealing systems in accordance with the requirements of the 44th BImSchV

With the introduction of the 44th BImSchV, Directive (EU) 2015/2193 was transposed into normal law. The background, limit values and technical solutions for implementing the 44th BImSchV have already been described in detail in the report ‘44th BImSchV requirements and solutions’ by the same author.

In its publication 6299 ‘Methods for monitoring the emissions of combustion engine systems’ from September 2019, the VDMA (German Engineering Federation) recommends sealing the catalytic converters in order to fulfil the correct installation of the catalytic converter in accordance with the 44th BImSchV. This wire seal must not be able to be opened non-destructively and must be provided with a consecutive engraved number, which must be documented in the operating logbook.
