Successful biogas plants are characterised by high availability and a sensible heating network.
The Bredegas GmbH & Co. KG biogas plant is located in the north-east of Münsterland, not far from the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. KG. The biogas plant was put into operation in 2011 as a useful addition to the pig fattening farm with 3,000 fattening places and the 150 hectares of arable land. Today, two ignition jet engines from SCHNELL are operated with 250 and 265 kW of electrical power. ‘We primarily use sugar beet, maize, grass silage and manure from our farm as substrates. The diverse composition of the input materials ensures a stable biology of the plant and thus leads to consistently good gas production,’ says Stephan Große Hokamp, describing his biogas plant.
In order to increase the utilisation rate of the plant, a sensible heating concept was implemented right from the start. As a result, the local heating network can currently supply 65 households in Ostbevern. ‘In the final expansion stage of the 6-kilometre-long district heating network, a total of 85 houses will be connected. The heating network is an important piece of the puzzle to secure the future of the biogas plant and thus the economic success of the business,’ reports the likeable farmer.
Mr Große Hokamp has relied on Emission Partner’s products and service for many years. ‘The complete package of emission measurement and catalytic converters, combined with a preliminary measurement and advice from the regional field service, ensures that I pass the measurement and thus qualify for the annual emission reduction bonus,’ says Große Hokamp, explaining the collaboration.
In addition to the catalytic converters and annual emissions measurement, activated carbon and various accessories are also supplied to the biogas plant. ‘I was able to significantly reduce the number of different suppliers and therefore my workload, and can now concentrate more on the farm instead of doing office work,’ says the farmer.
